Inquriy Lesson.... WHAT!!!??
When bosses started to cut wages for factory workers many people quit or were fired. This movement bought chld labor to play. Boss's would only hire men who had male children that could work. For example if a man applied for job and he had a son that was at least five years old he was usually hired.

Gilded Age
This era of time involved corruption, lies, and deceit.
Gilded gold is basically a fraud where an item is recognized as gold, but it is only gold on the surface while the real substance is something else. Mark Twain feferred to this time period as the Gilded Age because Boss William Marcy Tweed used money from

Unit 1 Test....YIKES!!!

The most of the questions dealing with reconstruction and the aftermath of it were pretty easy. The BCR'S dealing with the struggles and challenges of blacks were also kind of simple. Then again Reconstruction has been something that we focused on for a while.
Another part of the test dealt with the expansion of the country west or "manifest destiny", as well as the settlers of the west. Those questions were also very simple, we studied a lot and even played Jeopardy to help prepare for this test.
Our test was also about the industry of the railroad boom, as well as the oil and steel company advancement in the industry. People like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and Vanderbilt.
For the most part our test was OKAY...and even if you didn't study the night before, the studying we did in class should have helped educate you for the test.
HOPE WE ALL DID WELL!!!!

General Pertraeus
Today we learned specifically about contextualization on an excerpt of the debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. One of the main topics was the war and the new genral which is te guy in the picture to the right. General David Pertraeus in April of this year he sat before a congress telling of the status on the "front". And also our offensive plans in Iraq which is stated in this link.http://www.nysun.com/editorials/general-petraeuss-return/74098/ For a little background information on the guy in control stated in the New Yorker paper online in this linkhttp://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/09/08/080908fa_fact_coll where it states that he got his doctorial degree at harvard in 1987 and thats where their trying to point out how his intellegence is helpful but also realize his mistakes. They also tell us he has not voted since 2002 when he bacame a two star general. We also spoke of whether we should focus more on Alqida where the neuclear weapons are, Often we found history repeating and how David Pertraeus has began to help the U.S win.S now heres a video on the war http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs038xdDqxQ now the big question is Do we pull out or stay in and wait while more of our men get killed???

American Indians vs. White Settlers
As we all know, the first people to settle in America were not the white settlers but actually the American Indians. They have been here forever. Probably one of the only reasons that people actually believed that white settlers were the first in America is because they chased all of the Indians away and forced them to move. Also, that is what they have taught us, that the whites were here first which we now know is definitely not the case!

Down-Out and Broke, Not Just Me.

The bailout not only affects college students and business owners, it also affects regular homeowners. The bailout uses tax money that we would have had in our pockets for essential needs like food, water, and shelter leaving us to work even harder to get the money to supply those things. Obviously the senate cares nothing of the citizens of the United States thoughts because many people oppose the bailout. If only we had someone to help us through these rough economic times!

Sarah Say What!?!?

Even a ninth grader, Democrat or Republican, can tell that Sarah Palin is clueless when it comes to foreign policy. I mean really, just because I have visited another country does not mean that I know all about their foreign policy. Sarah Palin thinks that just because Russia and Canada are beside her state it makes her an expert in foreign policy. Katie Couric, a well known reporter, interviewed Sarah Palin and talked about many issues including foreign policy. When Katie asked her what interactions she's had with Russia through Alaska she claims, yeah we have trade missions with them back and forth. So my question is, what does Sarah Palin really know? In my opinion she makes herself look a little worse every time she's in the spotlight. Is Sarah Palin the right person to be the Vice-President of America? Does she have the experience to run the country if anything happened to McCain? You be the judge!http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_video/main500251.shtml?id=4478156n

Little Johnny vs. McCain
Not really knowing what a McCain fan was, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny. The teacher asked Little Johnny why he decided to be different... Again.
Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm not a McCain fan.'
The teacher said, 'Why aren't you a McCain fan?' Johnny said, 'Because I'm a Democrat.'

The teacher asked why he's a Democrat. Little Johnny answered, 'Well, my Mom's a Democrat and my Dad's a Democrat, so I'm a Democrat.'
The teacher asks, 'If your Mom was a moron, and your Dad was an idiot, what would that make you?' With a big smile, Little Johnny replied,'That would make me a McCain fan.'
I always liked Little Johnny.

Exra! Extra! Read All About It! Obama vs. McCain! Get While It's Still Hot!
Shocking news! Last night on CNN, Obama and McCain battled head to head on a 2 hour, on going, battle of the politics on conversations about who and why each candidate would like to be the president of the United States. Though the battle was close, in my point of view, i think that Obama took the gold medal. He was serious about his com-backs but, kept a humorous tone as well. He spoke of his life and how it affected his decision of becoming president.

Governor Palin: Superhero????
Today on Hardball With Chris Matthews, he discussed Palin's past and present actions. The enterprise HeroBuilders.com, has now decided to sell a new action figure doll of Gov. Sarah Palin. The public has yet to determine whether or not this is meant to express that she's ready to take action, or for another reason. That particular Enterprise has taken a fond liking of Mrs. Palin for unexplored reasons. Go figure Palin as a hero!

Financial Crisis??
Getting off to a great start!
The past two weeks have been busy, both in our classroom and in the nation. Against the backdrop of the 2008 Presidential Nominating Conventions, we have been exploring how the major issues in this election are affecting us. We've discussed the challenges that Senator Barack Obama and Governor Sarah Palin face in this election as they defy the odds and hope to make history as the first black president or first female vice president.
